Dental Implants

A dental implant is a tooth replacement that is secured within the jaw for long lasting natural looking results. Dental implants may be used to replace a single tooth, several teeth or an entire arch. A full arch restoration is called an All-On-4 procedure and uses a mere four dental implants to restore an entire set of teeth.

Tooth implants are constructed of a small titanium screw, and implant post and a dental crown. Once the dental implants are placed in the jaw, they begin to permanently fuse with the jawbone helping preserve bone density that is require for supporting facial feautures. Tooth implants are natural in appearance and feel just like natural teeth. Dental implants are unrivaled in longevity and stabiltiy and do not require adjacent teeth to be modified.

The dental implant procedure requires the surgical placement of small titanium screw placed in the jaw and allowed to heal. A dental crown is then placed on top and the procedure is complete.

Osseointegration is what allows the titanium screw to become fully integrated into the jawbone. Once accepted as a natural tooth, the post is used to secure the dental crown for a natural appearance.

Dental implant problems are uncommon. Dental implants risks and complications are fewer than 5 percent. Patients who smoke may have decreased bone density in the jaw. However, our experienced dental implant dentist at Norton Dental Vaughan has extensive experience in advanced techniques to maximize the use of bone tissue for successful dental implant placement. Smoking hinders the body’s ability to heal. If you are a smoker, you may be advised to quit before proceeding with the dental implant procedure.

Dental implants cost depends on the amount of teeth being restored, the type of implant used and whether additional procedures are required such as bone grafting or tooth extraction. Dental implant prices will be discussed with you during your dental implant consult here at Norton Dental Vaughan.
